O’s Notes: Cartography is Arve Henriksen’s ECM debut and it is quite an adventure. The Norwegian trumpeter takes risks and delivers a very unique collection of original compositions. The music is very open and natural. Arve integrates sounds of nature, everyday life and even infuses voice with some poetry over twelve tracks. Much of the program is like a cinema soundtrack. The mood is solemn and the sprit sedating. We were lulled into never-never land on several occasions as we listened fully reclined and relaxed. It works!
