O’s Notes: Alex Cook is a crooner who models himself after Dean Martin, Sammy Davis and Frank Sinatra hoping to capture just a bit of each in his signature. A solid ten-piece brassy ensemble backs him on Casino Music, his recording debut. The program includes classics and a few surprising arrangements of pop tunes cast into the swing era! Highlights are “Faith” and “Bad Things”. This is a fine first step that fits with America’s renewed interest in Swing.
