O’s Notes: Trombonist Phil Wilson arranges some of the best of Brazil for your enjoyment. His band is a sextet, a talented team that infuses a sense of warmth and calmness into ten of Jobim’s best. Phil does an excellent job leading the melodies on “Corcovado” with Matt Marvuglio (bass flute) and Larry Balone (g) adding supporting solos. Other highlights are “Triste”, “Desafinado” and “Samba de Uma Nota So” in what is an easy session to really enjoy. The rhythm section with Dario Eskenazi (p), Oscar Stagnaro (b) and Mark Walker (d) maintains a steady groove throughout the set.
