O’s Notes: Bix BeiderBecke was a renowned and respected cornetist, a pioneer of big band swing with a clear tone that resonated above the clouds. He recorded most of his music in the late 1920s. The Bix Centennial All Stars were formed to recreate that margin with Celebrating Bix! released by Arbors Jazz in 2003. It’s been a statement of swing ever since. This 20th Anniversary Edition keeps the fire burning on a two-disc set on Turtle Bay Records. It includes three new (previously unreleased) tunes and is a nice refresher including several of the original musicians.
