O’s Notes: Chet played one of the mellowest trumpets ever. This set showcases his work late in his career. Pianist Bradley Young recorded the performance 22 years ago after sitting in with one of his idols at a Chicago performance. Young got Baker onto the studio with his trio including Larry Gray (b) and Rusty Jones (d). Saxophonist Ed Petersen makes noteworthy appearances on three tracks as well. The significance of the recording is that is captures Baker in one of his last recordings still displaying the brilliance of his prime!
