O’s Notes: This is a part of a reissue series, remastered at 24 bits of Chet originally recorded in 1959 and produced by Orrin Keepnews. This was during Baker’s substance abuse period. But Keepnews captures the warm and melodic notes coming off of Baker’s trumpet, only instrumentals. Yes, the drugs pushed Chet’s already aggressive personality to the limit and diminished some of his vocal ability. The liner notes document some of this. No matter how many times we listen to Baker, we love his sound. You too can appreciate the magic of these ten ballads accentuated by strong musicians including Herbie Mann (fl), Paul Chambers (b) and Bill Evans (p).
