O’s Notes: Denver-based cornetist Ron Miles teams up with Bill Frissel (g) and Brian Blade (d) for Circuit Rider, their second release as a trio. Miles composed six of the nine selections. We liked the ballads particularly “The Flesh Is Weak” and “Dancing Close and Slow”. Both showcase the rich warm tone of Ron’s horn. We also enjoyed “Two Kinds Of Blues”, a different take with good results. Each of the musicians shine during the session but all come together as a team that continues to evolve.
