O’s Notes: Joe is a teacher, writer, producer, composer, student and enthusiast of the jazz music form. Close to So Far is at times almost contemporary and sometimes a dark but warm bebop. In both cases the tones are delightfully suitable for the mood of the track: subtle, racing and/or adventurous. The trio, with John Adams walking on his bass and Tim Solook taming his cymbals, is powerful and provocative.
