O’s Notes: Classic Sanborn played with a sense of desperation, hanging on the edge and taking his listeners to a threshold. This is a mellower D. He opened with “Tin Tin Deo” followed by “Señor Blues” and we exposed to the major Latin influence of the set. One departure from this theme is a beautiful vocal featuring Lizz Wright, “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight”. She has a strong rich voice – one to watch! Dave’s groove is jazzier now – evidence “Smile” where his lead lines swing. The raspy tone of his sax remains minus the edgy characteristics as he has evolved his signature sound.
