O’s Notes: Carmen sings and scats with an emotional spirit that intermingles her voice with the instrumentation. It’s a combination that warms the room. The band members are first call players including Curtis Lundy (b), Geri Allen (p), Anthony Wonsey (p) and Steve Turre (tb). Carmen wrote all of the music except her rich cover of “Nature Boy”. Lundy sings about her experiences in love, life and living. Slow blues, upbeat ballads and jazz vocals are performed to perfection. We liked the title track with lyrics that resonated with us and framed the session. We also enjoyed “Afrasia” with the kid’s choir, a fine solo from Turre and Lundy’s vocalization.
