Leadbetter, Huddie “Leadbelly”
Document, 2003, CD
Jazz Ruler Type: Ballads, Blues
O’s Notes: Huddie was known as Leadbelly, a legendary blues singer in the 1940s. This is Volume 1 of his works over an 8-year period. His music was explicit, realistic and very entertaining. Unfortunately for Leadbelly, some of his candor was a bit too much for the times. His open expression and temper took him to three jail sentences. He was charismatic and well tempered enough to be released early in each case and many blues listeners benefited as we can hear! The highlights here are “DeKalb Blues”, “The Boll Weevil” and “Good Morning Blues”.
