O’s Notes: Composer Ron Rieder changes directions on his third recording Compositions in Blue and Other Hues. He moves from Latin to fresh, straight-ahead originals. The band is a quintet featuring John Lockwood (b), Maxim Lubarsky (p), Yaure Muniz (t), Mike Tucker (sax), and Mark Walker (d). There are ragtime elements on “Interlude: Amingus Amonkus”, swinging hard on “Be Bim Bop” & “Java Mania”, grooving on “Rainy Day”, and “Cruising With The Top Down”. Rieder has a lot of gas in his tank!
