O’s Notes: Thrash metal guitarist Alex Skolnick tempers his approach a bit on this jazz-fusion release titled“Conundrum, his first jazz release since 2011. Skolnick plays in a trio with“bassist Nathan Peck and drummer Matt Zebroski. Most of the compositions are original works and they span a variety of styles from rock/fusion to country, tango, and jazz-fusion. They look at the music as a way to defuse some of the angst that many of us have coming to grips with our current political and social challenges. It’s a good source of relief.
