O’s Notes: Ian Sims plays tenor sax, composed all of the music and leads the band on Conundrum, an intriguing set of nine jazz-fusion songs. His band is a quintet with Alex Norris (t), Paul Bollenback (g), Ed Howard (b) and EJ Strickland (d). Sims himself is a bit of a conundrum having degrees in both engineering and music! He’s based in Baltimore and performs with notable jazz musicians along the East Coast. His debut release is a good effort and by no means as distant or confusing as suggested by the title and liner notes.
