O’s Notes: Stockton Helbing is a drummer, composer, producer, educator and bandleader who assembled a team of fellow musicians to record Crazy Aquarius. Aquarius is Helbing’s turtle featured on the CD jacket cover art! Paul Tynan (t) and David Lown (sax) add punchy brass accents throughout the set especially on the funky title track. Bassist James Driscoll and David Braid (p) anchor the rhythm section with Helbing. Noel Johnson plays guitar on four selections including the racy “Orbital” and cool “Trask”. We liked the flow on “The Morning Of” and the appropriately titled “Cool Man Jack” in this set of ten original compositions.
