O’s Notes: This is jazz saxophonist Jim Snidero’s fifteenth album as a leader! He elects to use a guitar based rhythms section featuring Paul Bollenback instead of the more traditional approach with a pianist. The resulting sound stage is more open, inviting Jim to be more creative. He works well with Bollenback’ comping and they share melodies effectively too. Paul Gill (b) and Billy Drummond (d) keep the pace. Drummond inserts a powerful solo on “Vortex” that raised our pulse. Snidero wrote six of the nine tracks and includes three complementary covers notably Herbie Hancock’s “One Finger Snap”. The program is an energetic jazz-fusion that will please bebop fans as well.
