O’s Notes: Jason plays violin and leads Edge, a quartet with Ken Filiano (b), Andrew Dury (d) and Taylor Ho Byrum (cornet, flugelhorn). They play five lengthy compositions that are packed with energy. The mode swiftly locks onto free fusion on “The Path Around the House” and then to a more engaging groove on the mellow “Crossroads Unseen” before returning to the ultra creative mode for the title track. Hwang’s compositions are accessible and engaging similar to Billy Bang yet with his own signature.
