O’s Notes: The Oakland-based Negative Press Project is back with their 5th recording, Cycles I, a refined statement. Ruthie Dineen (p) and Andrew Lion (b) lead the octet with The Friction Quartet and a few guest artists across a dozen warm selections. “Aelorean”, “Cycles Brilliant”, “Be” and “Libre” are just a few of the rich blend s of brass and strings. There are many musicians, but the sound is always complimentary, never congested.
