O’s Notes: Drummer, composer, producer Gregory Hutchinson serves up a winner with the pounding beats on Da Bang. The stories in the lyrics speak a myriad of emotions: trash talking, deceit, broken hearts… perhaps modern romance? Guest artists reign large with vocals from Leona Berlin, Sy Smith, PJ, Kameron Corvet, Tim Smith, Liselotte Östblom, Javier Starks, Soweto Kinch, and Samora. We enjoyed the program, especially Hutchinson’s skit, “Sugar Bang Bang”, “Fly Away” featuring Nicholas Payton (t), and “Last Time We Gon Be Polite” with trumpeter Christian Scott.
