O’s Notes: Dan Blake plays soprano and tenor saxophone, composed and produced the music for Da Fé (of faith), his latest release. His band is a quintet with Carmen Staaf (p, Rhodes), Leo Genovese (keyboards), Dmitry Ishenko (b) and Jeff Williams (d). They open and close with the introspective “Prologue -A New Normal” and “Epilogue – It Heals Itself”. In between there are titles reflecting the last twelve months. “Doctor Armchair” is a bit edgy while “The Grifter” speaks of the mystery of the deceptive. We liked the suspense of “The Cliff”.
