O’s Notes: Dill Jones was a Welch pianist who polished his art on the New York jazz scene in the 1950s. Many including Fats Waller influenced him. You can hear some elements of stride and ragtime in his playing. This solo effort is focused on music written by Bix Beiderbecke for piano. A few other standards round out the set that cuts across a variety of styles. You will appreciate Jones’ signature best on one of his original compositions, “Celtic Twilight”. It’s an excellent snapshot of a world class legendary jazz pianist who faded into obscurity when he died in 1984.
