O’s Notes: Rocco John Iacocone plays sax and composed all of the music for this free bop session. His partners are Michael Irwin (t), Aaron Keane (b) and Dalius Naujokaitis (d, perc). They play with no boundaries with inspiration coming from Eric Dolphy, Bach, Monk and Charlie Parker. Their playing is spontaneous but has sufficient structure for listeners to follow their moods. The swinging “Cy-Cology” has a New Orleans jazz feel followed by the mysterious “Devotion Suite”, the core of the session and also the highlight of the set.
