O’s Notes: This is another glorious performance featuring trumpeter Dave Douglas with Dave Adewumi (t), Matt Stevens (g), Fabian Almazan (p), Carmen Rothwell (b) and Joey Baron (d). There is a fresh arrangement of Dizzy Gillespie’s “Manteca” and a groovin’ take on “Pickin’ The Cabbage” found in the middle of the set. These tunes are surrounded by seven Douglas originals. Stevens adds the fusion element on tracks like “Subterfuge” and Almazan stands out on “Mondrian” before the warm closer “We Pray”.
