O’s Notes: We first heard Mary on an audiophile recording back in 1991 (Fine and Mellow – Clarity Records). It was one of our favorites. She spent most of her time in San Francisco and has quite a following there. It is well deserved. Stallings is no frills, just pure pleasure with sweet tones and a great sense of melody. For Don’t Look Back she is paired with pianist Eric Reed, Carl Allen (d) and bassist Reubin Rogers. They recorded the session after a week performing at Dizzy’s in New York. We still love Mary singing with spontaneity, mesmerizing our soul with grace and warmth.
