O’s Notes: Trumpeter Rex Richardson delivers modern jazz on Elegy, his latest release. He plays in multiple configurations with Charles Owens (t-sax), guest Steve Wilson (a-sax), and two distinct rhythm sections. The compositions are all original, mostly by Richardson. They’re cooking on “Honey Badger”, swinging hard on “No Resolution” featuring Wilson, and grooving on “Seize Every Day”. “The Sunday After” and “Lefty In The Clover” are more relaxed, rounding out an enjoyable set.
