O’s Notes: Jazz violinist Regina Carter gives us her take on the legendary Ella Fitzgerald. She infuses her jazzy blues-fusion melodies into Ella’s fabric to“Accentuate The Positive“and it works wonderfully. Miche Braden adds vocals on the title track and Carla Cook sings “Undecided”. The other seven selections are instrumentals including fine work by guitarist Marvin Sewell, Xavier Davis (keyboards, B3), bassist Chris Lightcap and Alvester Garnett (d, perc). This is a different take on Ella’s work and Carter successfully ushers the classics into 2017 with a few different spices. We loved the taste of it.
