O’s Notes: The legendary vocalist Ella Fitzgerald was an inspiration to Vivian Buczek from an early age and serves as the inspiration for her latest release. Buczek sings eleven of the tunes Ella embellished throughout her storied career. Pianist and producer Martin Sjöstedt keeps things fresh with unique arrangements that are well aligned to Vivian’s voice as well as the strengths of the band. Guest artists Matthias Ståhl (vibes), Fredric Lindborg (b cl, sax), Peter Asplund (t) and Karl Martin-Almquist (sax) add accents along the way. Highlights include the romance: “The Man I Love” and swing: “It’s Alright With Me”. Works like this prove that“Ella Lives“in many shades and through many artists.
