O’s Notes: It is hard to tell whether this recording is a rebirth for vocalist Lillian Terry or an introduction for her son, pianist, Francesco Crosara. It works either way as both are outstanding on this effort, as are the accompanying musicians, Von Freeman (sax), Dave Marr (b) and Rusty Jones (d). Guest appearances from Paulinho and Heitor Garcia (g), Adel Fadel (violin) and Edward Hanna (tabla) along with additional horns from Ned Boyd, Lynn Cowell and Bruce Knepper make it even more special. Lillian performed and had strong associations with Dizzy Gillespie. She almost disappeared from the recording studios after his death. This return is packed with heartfelt emotion as they swing through eleven classic pieces. The variety of the pieces reflects the international diversity of the players moving from Brazil to Europe to Africa to their basis, American jazz.
