O’s Notes: Saxophonist Tim Lin is a young Taiwanese American musician who launched his career in his native California before moving to New York for this sophomore recording, Empathy. The music herein reflects his embrace of the Big Apple from the relaxed Cali-burbs. Andy LaVerne (p), Jay Anderson (b), and Billy Drummond (d) are a very capable rhythm section that keep Lin on the rails. They open with “If I Should Lose You”, allowing Tim to explode before relaxing on “Namely You”, a warm ballad. That theme continues across a variety of tempos with a listenable groove throughout.
