O’s Notes: Drummer/producer Kenneth Salters assembled a fine band to perform mostly original compositions on Enter to Exit. Tivon Pennicott (ts), Aki Ishiguro (g), Matt Holman (t), Brad Whiteley (p) and Spencer Murphy (b) are the primary members. Ishiguro is prominent with solos throughout and notably on “Flakes”. The brass take over the melodies of the mid to slow tempo songs with pianists Whiteley and Shai Maesto (guest on “Deception”) filling the gaps. Everyone gets into the act on “Gymnopédie” one of our favorites along with the mysterious “Couldn’t Be” and “When You Find Out”.
