O’s Notes: New York-based guitarist, composer Owen Chen celebrates his debut release Eternal with fellow NYU colleagues, Joshua Roberts (d), Sukyung Kim (p), Sunhyun Yoo (a-sax), and Sean Hannon (b). The music marries Chen’s journey in music from classical violin to guitar, playing jazz-fusion and straight-ahead, New Jazz. He leads unselfishly, allowing his mates to shine as on “Infinity” featuring Yoo, and the nostalgic title track featuring Kim. It’s a brief, 4-song, 23-minute encounter that packs a strong punch.
