O’s Notes: Evenings at The Village Gate captures legendary saxophonist John Coltrane live at one of New York’s finest jazz spots (closed doors in 1994). This recording includes five extended versions of classic Coltrane tunes, including “My Favorite Things”, “Impressions”, and “Greensleeves”. The band is drummer Elvin Jones, bassist Reggie Workman, pianist McCoy Tyler, and special guest Eric Dolphy on bass clarinet and alto sax, all surrounding Coltrane who wails, seduces and cooks on soprano sax, displaying the passion that made him famous.
