O’s Notes: Guitarist Jewell’s quartet includes Reed Gratz (p), Baba Elefante (b) and Mike Bennett (d). They play eleven covers that have a warm, cozy character. Baba stands out making his bass resonate on “A Child Is Born” and throughout the set. Joe speaks up on “Alone Together” asserting his leadership and prowess on guitar. That continues with the blues of “Back At The Chicken Shack” and the delicate tones of “Beatrice”. They are true to the album title making every note count and helping listeners appreciate all of them.
