O’s Notes: Guitarist Rich Rosenthal has been through a life of “revelation, search, struggle and fulfillment”. He discovered his passion in music after exposure to artists like Ornette Coleman, Cecil Taylor and Sun Ra. Unfortunately a lack of parental support for the arts led to depression and then substance addiction. He persevered and graduated from The New School jazz program and embarked on playing professionally. Falling Up is his debut as Alexander capturing his journey to date. Rosenthal’s groove is not too far gone combining fusion with some of his free jazz influences and life experiences. We applauded his determination and look to hear more from him going forward.
