O’s Notes: Sharel Cassity is a composer and saxophonist with great chops on both jazz-fusion and modern jazz fronts. Her quartet includes pianist Richard Johnson, Alex Claffy on bass and drummer Mark Whitfield Jr. They open with a fleeting jaunt on “Whimsy” as each of the musicians stretch out. Sharel reminds us of Grover on “North Street” and swings on the cover of “The Very Thought of You” and “Not a Samba”. Cassity has lived and performed in New York, the Mid East and now Chicago where she has successfully recovered from Post Lyme Disease. Her courageous approach has left her Fearless with a resolve to continue bringing us great music and surely, she does!
