O’s Notes: Mathematician John Forbes Nash Jr. and his theories about intuition inspire guitarist Massimo Sammi. Sammi carries intuition into the music of First Day guided by his inner feelings for each of the seven original compositions. His band is quartet with George Garzone (sax), Yoron Israel (d) and John Lockwood (d). Dominique Eade adds voice on “Icecream and Tears, Please”. “Prisoner’s Dilemma #1 & #2” ease into free jazz space. The resulting sound is mild fusion centered on Massimo’s guitar melodies. First Day is a creative work with selective appeal.
