O’s Notes: These guys can swing and they do so here cooking up a feast on songs like “Driftin’” and “Oil and Water”. Frank is strumming his guitar while Shelly tickles the ivories. The normal competition between these instruments in a jazz band is non-existent on First Takes. We attribute the cooperative approach to their mutual admiration and capabilities. The results speak for themselves and are easily heard as they trade lead and rhythm roles.
