O’s Notes: Swiss violinist Preisig leads his new quartet in his debut recording as a leader on ObliqSound. Tobias composed all of the music, a mix of jazz, classical and ballads. Stephan Rusconi (p), André Pousaz (b) and Michi Stulz (d) perform his work admirably. Preisig plays with rich tone and injects a lot of feeling into the melodies. Highlights are the dynamic “Chapter Two”, the dramatic “Waldspaziergang” and the cool vibe on “Headup” and “Casablanca”. This is not for the masses but will delight those who enjoy the violin in both jazz and chamber settings.
