O’s Notes: Detroit born and Chicago based saxophonist John Wojciechowski combines the musical vibe of both cities with his own funk on Focus, his debut as a leader. The action picks up on “Summon The Elders” with drummer Dana Hall and bassist Dennis Carroll providing an earthy base. Pianist Ryan Cohan rounds out the quartet and shines on “Divided Man”. Wojciechowski softens the mood on “Elegy”, a pleasant ballad. The balance is good and the grove is tight making for a solid start.
