O’s Notes: Follow the Stick features Sam Sadigursky playing clarinet, the stick in this case. It is our first review of Sam performing as a leader. He performs thirteen original compositions in a quartet with Chris Dingman (vibes, marimba), Bobby Avey (p) and Jordan Perlson (d, perc). Jason Palmer adds trumpet on four selections and Ljova plays viola on “Looks Can Be Deceiving”. “3+2” and “Deadly Sins” also stand out in a session that is balanced between peaceful and vibrant selections rooted in many genres. The overall effect is pleasing with Sadigursky establishing himself as a formidable artist.
