O’s Notes: This progressive rock session features Wendy Lewis singing poetic blue vocals in front of The Bad Plus: Reid Anderson (b, vocals), Ethan Iverson (p) and David King (d,vocals). This genre is not for every jazz fan but the prog rock audience is growing rapidly and this is right on target for that crowd. Listen to the lyrics on “Lithium” to get a better feel for what we mean! We recognized “Long Distance Runaround” and enjoyed their new arrangement. The cover of “How Deep is Your Love” was transformed a bit more to the dark side than we could appreciate. Our favorite was the heavily syncopated instrumental interlude “Semi-Simple Variations”.
