O’s Notes: …For It’s Beauty Alone “is a modern jazz-fusion recording centered on the prowess of Russian bassist Yuriy Galkin. Now based in the UK, Galkin forms a band with Rudy Royston (d), Matt Mitchell (p) and David Binney (sax). The interactions are rich with complexity on tunes like “Further Eruptions”. They also settle down on passionate ballads like the title track featuring Binney. Things get a bit spacey on “Camera Obscura” with a dose of electronics but return to a more conventional fusion groove on “Cradle Song”.
