O’s Notes: Brian Landrus plays sax, flute, bass clarinet and leads a strong band centered around pianist Fred Hersch, bassist Drew Gress and drummer Billy Hart. There is great brass harmony on “J.J.” with Michael Rodriguez (t) joining Landrus. The title track is the first of several compositions with strings adding rich texture and a change of pace to the set. Brian also plays an ultra cool solo rendition of “Round Midnight” followed by a swinging take on “Invitation”. This one is solid all around.
