O’s Notes: MOPDtK is a happy quartet featuring Moppa Elliott (b), Peter Evans (t), Jon Irabagon (sax) and Kevin Shea (d, electronics). They play what seems like ordinary contemporary music then all of a sudden they drift into a free improvisation that is highly energetic. The use of atypical sounds adds to the intensity as Jon and Peter race through the melodies. Many times they approach chaos and sometimes the spill over the edge. They get hung up on phases in spots then break lose like a wild animal. This is Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride on steroids! It is definitely not for everybody but you have to applaud their creativity. These guys are having fun!
