O’s Notes: The inspiration for saxophonist, composer Josh Sinton’s latest release is the vulnerability we experienced in the US during 2020. He devised a set of Four Freedoms that he will focus on with each new personal encounter. They are 1. Freedom from fear, 2. Freedom to be oneself, 3. Freedom to love and 4. Freedom from advertising. They all involve ownership and responsivity. Sinton’s band is the Predicate Quartet with Jonathan Finlayson (t), Christopher Hoffman (cello) and Tom Rainey (d). They play five free jazz selections that are reflections of the treacherous journey. We enjoyed to vibe on “Shards” and “Blood”.
