O’s Notes: Day Dream is a seasoned trio featuring pianist Steve Rudolph, bassist Drew Gress, and Phil Haynes on drums. Duke & Strays Live is centered on the works of the legendary Duke Ellington & Billy Strayhorn. The band doesn’t normally perform live but this faculty recital, a 2-disc set, was recorded at The Natalie Davis-Rooke Recital Hall, Bucknell University on September 23, 2023. It is their fourth recording, and it swings, sans showboating, with an inviting groove. They embellish eleven classic compositions leaving lots of room for embellishments from each of the musicians. The results are an engaging, dynamic performance!
