O’s Notes: Free Flying is an accurate description of the music on this CD as pianist Fred Hersch and guitarist Julian Lage engage in playful interchanges that are jovial and packed with energy. Fred wrote most of the music and leads the charge with Lage nudging his way into the spotlight as if he was an extension of the keyboard. There is no shortage of talent and not much empty space as these talents musicians strut their stuff making the twosome sound much greater than a duo!
