O’s Notes: Wolfgang Muthspiel is a premier guitarist and Brian Blade is a first call jazz drummer. Brian also plays guitar and they both add voice for Friendly Travelers. They play eleven original tunes that have a popular/fusion sound. “Vallekilide” named after the Danish village where they met in 1988 is a blend of southwestern pop and fusion. “Youssou” is named after the Senegalese singer and the syncopated beats make for a good tribute. Our favorites were “Andrej Rubljow” inspired by the Russian monk and painter and “Cold Summer”. These are a few examples from the collection of unique, fresh sounds that kindle a wealth of memories for the duo and also make for good listening.
