O’s Notes: If you know Rhode Island jazz, you know vocalist/pianist Debra Mann! She’s been a part of the fabric for many years as well as a music professor at both Brown University and Wheaton College. For“Full Circle,“Mann celebrates the music of Joni Mitchell, an artist that she’s idolized since she first began singing. Her primary accompaniment includes Dino Govoni (sax, fl), Dave Zinno (b), Marty Richards (d) and the masterful guitarist Jay Azzolina. They recast Mitchell’s work in a fresh, contemporary jazz-fusion light. They play 10 of Joni’s hits and add two Mingus tunes for even greater depth. We enjoyed the music, the singing and the messages.
