O’s Notes: This concert was recorded live at Palazzo del Congressi, Lugano, January 1983. While late in his career, Gil still had all of the elements that took him into the lime light with Miles Davis decades earlier. This is a large ensemble including such masters as Billy Cobham (d), Mike Mainieri (vibes), Howard Johnson (tuba, b sax), Randy Brecker (t) and Michael Brecker (sax). They perform ten compositions mainly written by Evans. The cameras catch all of the action and the music delights the crowd. It’s a good session.
